Obituary: James Willis

James Belmont Willis Jr., 75, of Laguna Beach, died on July 21, at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach after a long bout with heart disease and emphysema.

He was born on Jan. 2, 1937 in Morehead City, N.C., son of James Belmont and Cora Willis. A graduate of North Carolina State University in architecture, his career spanned 50 years, during which time he designed many beautiful residential and commercial buildings both in North Carolina and California.

He is survived by his life partner and soul mate, Marion Jacobs of Laguna Beach; a brother Barry Willis and sister Sally Miller; four children, Lynne Willis Braxton, Charles “Sammy” Wells, Durwood “Pug” Willis, and Matthew Thomas Willis; and four beautiful granddaughters, Jessi, Roxanne, Allyson and Darci Braxton.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Foundation, 31872 Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, Calif., 92651, would be appreciated.
