The South County Crosscultural Council honored Sally Rapuano, the founding 20-year director of an English as a second language program, at a retirement lunch recently.

Rapuano started La Playa Center with one other ESL teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in 1996. Over two decades, the program moved to its present location at the Boys & Girls Club and now has a dozen volunteer teachers at three levels of instruction.

Rapuano recently stepped down and Bonnie Teder and Janet Waters have taken the reins as co-directors.

In honor of her service, the Council presented Rapuano a framed photo of her teaching a class, signed by La Playa Center teachers.
