Frimond Named Marine Protection Officer

Jeremy Frimond was named to replace Calla Allison as the city’s marine protection officer.

Frimond’s knowledge of Laguna Beach’s coastline and extensive experience working with communities in South Africa in the field of marine and environment protection made him stand out in a competitive recruitment, according to the city manager’s weekly report.

Close to 100 people applied for the job.

 

Commission Selects Schmiede, Johnson for Chair Positions

The Planning Commission has appointed Robert Zur Schmiede as chairperson and Ann Johnson as chair pro tem.

The commission is a City Council-appointed entity whose members prepare, periodically review, revise and implement the city’s general plan, as well as annually review the city’s capital improvement program.

 

Firefighters Honor Their Comrades

Laguna Beach firefighters have been wearing mourning bands as a sign of respect for the 19 Arizona Wildland Firefighters that were killed in the line of duty on Sunday, June 30.

In addition, Laguna Beach firefighter-paramedic David Lopez, who plays the bagpipe and is a member of the volunteer O.C. Fire Pipes and Drums band, performed at the memorial service on Tuesday in Prescott, Ariz., with other firefighters from Orange County.
