Linda Purl, currently staring  in the television series “Reckless” and having played  supporting roles in “Homeland,” “Matlock” and “Happy Days,” brings talent to Laguna Playhouse’s second show of the season, “The Year of Magical Thinking,” which opens Saturday Oct. 11.

The play is based on Joan Didion’s National Book Award winning memoir and directed by the award-winning Jenny Sullivan, who directed the Playhouse production of “Steel Magnolias.”

“To have Linda Purl on our stage with one of the more powerful pieces of theatre I have come across is just a triumph that our audiences and subscribers are going to treasure,” promised Playhouse Director Karen Wood.

“Jenny Sullivan is quite simply one of our best theatre directors working today and to have her bring her magic touch to the powerful words of Joan Didion is simply a dream realized,” adds Artistic Director Ann E. Wareham.

“The Year of Magical Thinking” is a story of journey, loss and the human spirit. The play is a tribute to Didion’s marriage to John Gregory Dunne and a love letter to her daughter.

Didion’s adaptation of her book for Broadway, directed in 2007 by David Hare, opened with Vanessa Redgrave and has since traveled the world, playing everywhere from Salzburg to Sydney.

Tickets, $36-$61, can be purchased online at: lagunaplayhouse.com or by calling 949-497-2787.  The show runs through Sunday, Nov. 2.
