A man who retaliated for being kicked in the groin by pushing his attacker was arrested for felony battery in Laguna Beach on Sunday, April 29, when the woman fell down stairs and sustained severe but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 55-year-old woman suffered facial and arm fractures along with head injuries and facial lacerations from the fall, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. She was transported to Mission Hospital Trauma Center in Mission Viejo and is expected to survive.

The recipient of the kick, Rudy James McEntire, 34, of Boulder, Colo., called police to report the 7:32 p.m. incident in the 300 block of Mermaid Street. Another person also reported that a woman had been pushed down a flight of stairs.

At the scene, witnesses and McEntire told police he quarreled with the victim, who thought he was flirting with her sister whose boyfriend had recently died. The victim allegedly kicked the suspect in the groin and he responded by pushing her backwards, which caused her to fall down stairs.

McEntire posted $25,000 bail and was released with a future court date pending, Kravetz said.
