Police on the Hunt for Drunk Drivers

Officers from the Laguna Beach Police Department will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers Friday, July 18, between 6 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19.

In the previous three years, DUI collisions have claimed one life and resulted in 37 crashes that injured 52 people, Lieutenant Jeff Calvert said.

Tuesday, July 8

Vehicle burglary. 30800 block of Coast highway. 1:24 a.m. A woman was briefly held at gunpoint after a report of an attempted car break-in. A visitor, she had apparently mistaken one car for another that she had permission to enter.

Suspicious circs. 500 block of Mystic Way. 1:51 a.m. A homeowner reports that her dogs are barking wildly and suspects a burglar because a front door was left open. Police indeed discover a masked bandit: a raccoon in the house. He left without assistance.

Patrol check. 800 block of N. Coast Hwy. 6:37 a.m. Video captured people using a hammer and trying to pry open an atm machine between midnight and 6 p.m.

Pedestrian stop. 20600 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 6:46 p.m. A 45-year-old woman lay down on Laguna Canyon Road was taken to Mission Hospital for a mental evaluation.

Attempt to locate. 200 block of S. Coast Hwy. 9:32 p.m. Police received a request to check on the whereabouts of a 29-year-old Glendora man in a wheelchair, who was left in town after an argument with his brother and father.

Wednesday, July 9

Traffic collision. Laguna Canyon Rd. 8:36 a.m. A passenger complained of pain following a two car collision.

Traffic collision. 300 block of Cliff Dr. 9 a.m. A motorcyclist injured his arm and ankle dropping a bike to avoid a collision with a Lincoln Towncar.

Thursday, July 10

Fraud. 400 block of Monterey Dr. 11:46 a.m. Unknown subject trying to open an account with stolen information.

Grand theft. 1500 block of Coast wy. 3:45 p.m. A pair of 1.5 caret diamond earrings valued at $10,000 were allegedly stolen from a guest’s room.

Petty theft. 700 block of S. Coast Hwy. 8 p.m. Michael Alexander Hubbard, 23, a transient from Mission Viejo, was charged with suspicion of burglary after police detained him near the market with items he allegedly stole in his possession. These were liquor, cough syrup and cold sore ointment. Bail was set at $20,000.

Friday, July 11

Traffic stop. Vista del sol. 2 a.m. A 55-year-old San Juan Capistrano woman was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

Pedestrian stop. 14-02195. S. Coast Hwy. 2:17 p.m. Christopheer Conway Chism, 27, of Rialto, was charged with suspicion of meth possession after a search turned up .19 grams of the controlled drug. Bail was set at $20,000. His female companion was wanted for an outstanding vehicle code warrant.

Traffic stop. Beach St. 11 p.m. Travis Anthony Pagliarulo, 24, of Aliso Viejo, was cited for suspicion of DUI and held for $10,000 bail due to prior offenses.

Pedestrian stop. 3200 block of Alta Laguna Blvd. 11:57 p.m. As part of a special fire watch patrol, Nicole Dominiqie Zampino, 20, of Seal Beach, was arrested for suspicion of a felony, selling marijuana. Her bail was set at $25,000. In addition, two officers issued nine other alcohol related citations, another for pot possession and two for smoking in a fire zone. (!)

Saturday, July 12

Pedestrian stop. 3200 block of Alta Laguna Blvd. 1:42 a.m. Vanessa Esther Lara, 22, of Fullerton, was cited for DUI causing injury warrants and held for $15,000 bail.

Traffic stop. Anita St. 1:43 a.m. A 28-year-old San Juan Capistrano man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
