The city’s firefighters and the Police Employee Association have both endorsed Rob Zur Schmiede in his campaign for the Laguna Beach City Council.

“Politicians always talk about ‘public safety’ around election time, but Rob has shown a sincere commitment to supporting the public safety workers who put themselves on the line every day to keep our community safe,” Andrew Hill, of the Laguna Beach Firefighters, said in a statement, noting that Zur Schmiede joined a fire crew for a shift to better understand operations.

Zur Schmiede is the only candidate to also have completed the police department’s 13-week Citizens Academy, said Larry Bammer, president of the police group.

“I have pledged to do everything I can to provide our firefighters, police officers and lifeguards with the support and resources they need to keep us safe and to go home unharmed after every shift. That has been a cornerstone of my campaign and I will have no higher priority on Council,” Zur Schmiede said.
