Eight athletes from Laguna Beach participated at USA Water Polo’s Olympic Development Program for eighth graders at a Southern California regional championship last month.
The program is the primary feeder system for the USA Water Polo youth and national teams. Athletes who spend six months in training for the tournament are top water polo players for their age group by region.
Makenzie Fischer was awarded the top scorer for the tournament and she and Bella Baldridge were each named to the all-region team. Makenzie and Bella along with Holly Parker were also selected for the national selection camp to be held in May, where the top players from four regions of the country will compete for a spots on the USA Youth Team.
