Problems Residents Shouldn’t Overlook

Editor,

Every so often, I take my wife to beautiful Laguna Beach for a stroll.  On our Saturday visit, we noticed a bunch of problems that have been neglected for many, many years.

The city staff might be excused, but not the residents who represent far greater numbers, can see the problems, but haven’t bothered to report them.

The end of Oak Street has bushes obstructing half of the public sidewalk. The sidewalk just along a short section of Coast Highway was engraved with graffiti years and years ago, which continues to stand as encouragement for other vandals to imitate it in the future. Pipes, poles, and trash cans have graffiti written on in paint that is offensive and distracting from the scenery, sights, and shops. Near Laguna’s main corner, there is a large tree also obstructing the public right of way, which should be removed.

I didn’t come to Laguna looking for these problems.  They simply jumped out at me and cried for remediation. So I reported what I saw to your City Council.

It’s time for LB residents to do your part, which is to say, pay attention and report problems to the city, to keep it safe, and looking nice. Branches in the eyes and trees knocking you in the head are public hazards.
