Roll Out a Welcoming Bridge

Editor,

With regard to the proposed village entrance project, I wonder if the city might want to consider an entrance feature similar to the one currently over the Coast Highway in Dana Point where visitors are welcomed to that city by the structure, which is a combination welcome sign and pedestrian overcrossing. Our version wouldn’t need to be nearly as large as this to do the job.

If we want to truly welcome visitors to Laguna Beach, a well-designed structure spanning the roadway, with or without the added function of pedestrian over-crossing, could make the tasteful and positive statement I believe we are looking for.

One thing would be certain, no one would enter the city via the canyon road without being appropriately welcomed.
