Laguna’s 77th season got off to a rough start for the pitching staff. On Thursday, March 5, Evan Chalmers (Laguna ’82) brought his Newport Harbor squad for a rare visit to Laguna and the Tars won 7-2 for a 16th win by Newport in the 18-game series that dates back to 1945.

On Saturday, March 7, Laguna traveled to Mission Viejo and lost 21-13, only one run off the highest combined score in Laguna baseball history. A total of 30 hits were registered in the game. On Monday, March 9, the 60th meeting between Valencia and Laguna was a one-sided affair as the Tigers won 11-0 in Placentia. The winners hold a 46-14 series advantage.

Laguna played St Paul (Santa Fe Springs) this past Tuesday, March 10, and play their final Elks tournament game on Friday, March 13. League play opens on Friday, March 20, at Costa Mesa. So far for the Orange Coast League in non-conference action, only Calvary Chapel has had any real success in games. Breakers will host them on March 31.
