Bodyboarder Jack Dickerson conquered a high tide and small waves to achieve his top career result in the opening event of the 2013-2014 Scholastic Surf Series. The Laguna Beach Surf Team is competing this year in the San Diego Division 2 and took on Carlsbad “B” on Oct. 20 at Churches in San Onofre State Park.
While edged out of a team win, several surfers advanced to individual competitions where they faced a number of strong San Diego high school teams. In addition to Dickerson’s third place in bodyboard finals, solid performances were given through the semi-finals by shortboard surfers Tobie Grierson and Cameron Zuziak. The top boys longboarder was Ryan Meisberger who made it through numerous rounds. Missing out on advancement but competing well were Zach Levine and Sean Siegrist in boys shortboard, Anika Pitz in girls shortboard, and Erik Siegrist and Tobie Grierson in the boys longboard category. In girls longboard, Marlee Grosher surfed well, barely missing the finals.
The team, coached by Scott Fin and Alisa Cairns, competes next on Nov. 3 at Avalanche in Ocean Beach.
