SchoolPower is moving beyond its mission raising money for Laguna’s public schools to also organize a musical instrument drive for woodwinds, strings and brass instruments in good working condition.

The Play it Forward campaign is an effort to supplement the $78,000 Schoolpower recently agreed to give the school district to pay for instruments.

“We know there are people out there with a trumpet or violin, maybe even an oboe or clarinet, in their garage that is no longer being used,” explained SchoolPower president Marcus Skenderian.

People are encouraged to drop off their instruments at the SchoolPower office at 733 St. Ann’s between the hours of 8:30 and 3:30 between Nov. 28 and Dc. 9. “We’ll even come to your car if you can’t find a parking space,” added Skenderian.

The public is also invited to attend the free Instrumental Winter Concert at the Artists Theatre on Monday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
