Baseball
Season opens Thursday, March 5, at Laguna vs Newport Harbor, 3 p.m. Breakers are in the Foothill Division this season. The JV squad starts this weekend, Saturday, Feb. 28, hosting El Modena in a doubleheader at Skipper Carrillo Field.
Baseball alumni report:
Keaton Jones is back for his fourth season as the short stop for Texas Christian University having started 191 games for the Frogs. The Fort Worth school is in Los Angeles next week for a pair of games with UCLA and USC.
At Cal Berkeley, senior Chris Paul is the starting first baseman and freshman Preston Grand Pre is at short. Both were instrumental in the Bears taking three of four games from UCI last week and are among their top batters. Cal will be in Southern California April 16-18.
Boys Golf
The squad will face Sage Hill on Wednesday, March 4.
Boys Tennis
Opened at El Toro on Feb. 26 and will host San Juan Hills on March 3 and Newport Harbor on March 5.
Softball
Opens at Santiago/Garden Grove on March 2
Boys Volleyball
Opens at Newport Harbor on March 3. Laguna beat Newport last season but trail in the series 22-13. Breakers top the initial Division II poll for 2015. Laguna’s first division test will be March 14 at the Dos Pueblos tournament.
