A 42-year-old homeless man suffered a five-inch stab wound to the chest as a result of a fight on the beach with another transient, police said Tuesday.

The victim was transported to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach with non-life threatening injuries, said Lt. Jason Kravetz. The suspect had left the area, but was located minutes later on El Paseo Street. David Prendez, 55, from Sacramento, was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was transported to Orange County Jail and held on $25,000 bail, Kravetz said.

A lifeguard stationed at a nearby tower reported the 5 p.m. fight between two homeless men. The two men had apparently been arguing over an earlier incident, involving an accusation of theft. The day-long arguing escalated into a fist fight and stabbing, Kravetz said.
