Elderly Woman Dies as a Result of a Collision
Virginia Worthington, 80, of Laguna Beach dies on Wednesday, Sept. 26, as a result of injuries she suffered in a collision with a vehicle, police said.
A vehicle that had been traveling northwest on High Drive approaching Allview Terrace about 5:30 p.m. struck Worthington, who entered the roadway from Allview Terrace, causing major blunt force injuries, Sgt. Louise Callus said.
Medics treated her at the scene and she was transported to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, where she passed away from her injuries, Callus said.
The driver of the vehicle also lives in the immediate area and knew Worthington and her family. There did not appear to be any drugs or alcohol involved, Callus said.
Monday, Sept. 24
Burglary. 11:30 a.m. 2100 block of Crestview Dr. Two luxury handbags valued at $4,000 were discovered missing in the last month. There are no signs of forced entry.
Traffic stop. 4:54 p.m. Broadway. George Jess Teague, 50, of Laguna Woods, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and battery after he bit a police officer who was buckling him into a vehicle. Earlier, Teague allegedly kicked the officer, who had pulled him over for driving on the wrong side of the road.
DUI north city limits. 8:20 p.m. A 47-year-old San Clemente resident was cited for DUI and held for bail of $2,500.
Tuesday, Sept. 25
Fire. 8:53 a.m. Balboa Ave. Large electrical box smoking. Power outage in Arch Beach area.
Reckless driving. 9:37 a.m. State Hwy. Ryan Adel Girgis, 18, was arrested for suspicion of possessing three prescription drugs with a prescription. Bail was set at $20,000.
Encampment. 10 a.m.Laguna Canyon Rd. Two homeless encampments are found; one unoccupied tent.
Grand theft. 5:28 p.m. 1500 block of S. Coast Hwy. Theft occurred previous week when owner left vehicle with a valet; when retrieved the following day, iPad and American Express card had been stolen.
Traffic stop. 10:31 p.m. Montage resort. A 28-year-old Palmdale man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Traffic stop. 10:33 p.m. West St. A Laguna Niguel man, 23, was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Wednesday, Sept. 26
Traffic collision. 12:14 a.m. 1800 block of Coast Hwy. Melissa Janey Lepage, 36, of Dana Point, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and driving on a suspended license after initially fleeing the scene of a collision. She had flipped her own vehicle after colliding with a parked car and was uninjured.
Traffic stop. 200 block of Broadway. 1 a.m.A 43-year-old Hollywood woman was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Fraud. 10:30 a.m. 200 block of Ocean Ave. Gillian Mary Claar, 25, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for suspicion of fraud and burglary after attempting to withdraw funds from an account flagged for fraudulent activity. Bail was set at $20,000. Claar allegedly told police she was acting on instructions of a man she met in a chat room.
Traffic stop.. 3:36 p.m. 200 block of Broadway. Victor Fernandez Gutierrez, 23, of Costa Mesa, was arrested for suspicion of meth possession after police found a baggie stuffed in a flashlight that didn’t work. Bail was set at $20,000.
Petty theft. 3:34 p.m. 300 block of Glenneyre St. A computer was stolen at the library.
Petty theft. 4:16 p.m. 30800 block Coast Hwy. Purse, cell phone and other items stolen from car parked overnight on Monday.
Traffic stop. 10:35 p.m. 200 block of Nyes Pl. Roger J. Forker, 50, of Los Angeles, was arrested for three vehicle code violation warrants.
Thursday, Sept. 27
Pedestrian stop. 12:13 a.m. A 44-year-old Laguna Beach woman was arrested for an outstanding DUI warrant. Bail was set at $15,000.
Traffic stop. 1:28 a.m. A 26-year-old woman was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Disturbance. 1:55 a.m. 200 block Chiquita St. Cooper Parrott, 30, of Huntington Beach, was arrested for suspicion of meth possession after police found him passed out in a vehicle that had been idling loudly for 10 minutes. Bail was set at $20,000.
Suspicious vehicle. 1:50 p.m. 600 block of Cliff Dr. Rodrigo Dominguez, 29, of Riverside was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants. Bail was set at $25,000.
Petty theft. 3:29 p.m. 32100 block of Virginia way. Unknown subject stole a surfboard and sunglasses valued at $600 out of garage.
Grand theft. 6 p.m. 500 block S .Coast Hwy. An unknown number of jewelry items were stolen from a gallery.
Friday, Sept. 28
Traffic stop. 400 block of Sea View. 12 a.m. A 41-year-old San Francisco resident was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Harassment. 10:43 a.m. 500 block Bluebird Canyon Dr. A psychologist received 10 threatening emails from a subject she’s never met.
Citizen contact. 500 block of Forest ave. Livier Jimenez, of Alhambra, was arrested for suspicion of fraudulently writing herself a $750 check from her employer’s check book. Bail was set at $20,000.
Saturday, Sept. 29
Traffic stop. Coast Cleo. 12:02 a.m. A Chicago woman was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Traffic stop. 200 block of Cliff Dr. 1:14 a.m. A 28-year-old Newport Beach man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Traffic stop. Coast Hwy at Aliso 2:16 a.m. A 22-year-old Lake Forest man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Grand theft. 11 a.m. 400 block of Arroy Chico. A $35,000 diamond necklace last seen on Wednesday at a Laguna restaurant turned up missing the following day.
Vandalism . 200 block of Viejo St. 11:58 a.m. A second story window valued at $1000 was broken.
Fraud. 400 block of Poplar St. 12:20 p.m. An unknown subject opened an account in the victim’s name without her knowledge. About $500 in merchandize was bought fraudulently.
Sunday, Sept. 30
Traffic stop. 3:14 a.m. 1700 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. Israel Mendoza, 46, of Aliso Viejo was arrested for DUI and held for $10,000 bail due to a prior offense.
Traffic collision. 11:03 a.m. El Toro Rd. A 36-year-old bicyclist from Irvine suffered facial injuries and possibly was knocked unconscious in a fall. An indentation near a manhole cover could be the culprit.
Hit and run. 11:16 a.m. 1000 block of N. Coast Hwy. Wendy Annette MacDonald, 39, of Laguna Beach was arrested for suspicion of DUI. A hit and run collision occurred in the 200 block of Fairview though MacDonald was stopped at Locust and High Drive, Sgt. Callus said.
Unknown suspect. 2100 block of Glenneyre St. A political poster was defaced.
Burglary. 8:41 p.m. 1900 block of Ocean Way. A TV and piece of art were found outside a vacant apartment.
Traffic stop. 200 block of Cliff Dr. 10:30 p.m. A 24-year-old Corona del Mar man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
