Man Held for Underage Sex Offense
Police arrested a Costa Mesa man for suspicion of statutory rape on Friday, Oct. 7, six months after a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old Laguna Beach girl, police said.
Detectives arrested Michael Sheridan, 23, in Costa Mesa’s Heller Park at 2:47 p.m. where he and a group were engaged in live action role-playing simulating renaissance era combat, Rahaeuser said. His bail was set at $20,000.
After he was taken into custody, Sheridan, a welder, allegedly admitted to investigators he had a sexual encounter with a female he knew to be underage, Rahaeuser said.
The girl’s parents reported the incident to police, who seized the girl’s computer to substantiate the allegation, Rahaeuser said.

Grand theft. 10:58 a.m. 300 block of High Dr. Six bikes of an undetermined value were taken from an unlocked garage.
Vandalism. 9:37 p.m. 300 block of St. Ann’s Dr. Someone tried unsuccessfully to open a rear window of a vehicle.
Thursday, Oct. 6
Film permit. 7 a.m. “The Housewives” production company was filming at Cliff Drive, Crescent Bay, Main Beach, Treasure Island, Victoria and Thalia.
Suspicious. 2:33 p.m. Undetermined bus stop. Guardians of an 11-year-old boy report that two men approached him. No further details were available.
Fraud. 5:24 p.m. An unknown suspect made two unauthorized credit card transactions.
Traffic stop. 10:05 p.m. 200 block of Broadway. A 22-year-old San Gabriel woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
