Cyclist Dies in Crash
A 51-year old Laguna Beach cyclist, descending Los Flores Canyon Road above Malibu, died from head injuries after he struck a barrier and was thrown to the ground on Sunday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Robert Hyndman, a marketing writer who lived in North Laguna, was riding with his brother on Sunday and was wearing a helmet, bikinginla.com reported.
A memorial ride for Hyndman is planned for Sunday, Nov. 13, beginning from Santa Monica’s Bike Effects.
$10 Theft Results in Robbery Charge
Within hours of a service station clerk reporting that one of three male shoplifters threatened him with a handgun last Saturday, police collared the suspected trio in separate arrests and recovered a toy pellet gun that had been painted to look more authentic.
The thief who allegedly brandished the handgun turned out to be female, police Lt. Jason Kravetz said. Police were called to Ramona Avenue to render medical aid by the brother of Diana Mendoza, 18, of Laguna Beach, who matched the description of the alleged gunman, Kravetz said.
Mendoza was charged with robbery, burglary and possession of a controlled substance. After booking, she was transported to Orange County Jail with a $100,000 bail. The officer determined no aid was necessary, Sgt. John Falk said.
Earlier, police arrested two men walking on Ramona Avenue, who matched descriptions of the thieves in the hour-earlier robbery and where the toy gun had been recovered. They both allegedly were also in possession of Vicodin without a prescription, Kravetz said. The clerk later identified them as alleged accomplices in the robbery, he said.
One was a 17-year-old Laguna Beach resident, who was charged with suspicion of burglary and marijuana possession and released to his parent, Kravetz said. The other is Oscar Alberto Cea Valladares, 18, of Dana Point, who was arrested for similar charges and transported to county jail. His bail was $20,000.

A male suspect has been attempting to make purchases, including tickets to a Monster Truck event in Sacramento, on a credit card issued to someone in Great Britain but using a local resident’s name and address. The victim has received numerous calls from vendors.

Warrant service. 7:35 p.m. 300 block of Anita St. Jesse Allett Cook, 21, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for a $25,000 Central Court warrant on possession of drugs and paraphernalia charges. He failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued.

Vehicle burglary. 9:25 p.m. 20400 block Laguna Canyon Rd. A suspect shattered a passenger side window on a parked SUV and stole a briefcase with a laptop and a calculator and a Coach purse. The total loss is $3,000.
