Police Arrest Suspect in Injury of a Woman

A man who retaliated for being kicked in the groin by pushing his attacker was arrested for felony battery when the woman fell down stairs and suffered severe injuries on Sunday, April 29, Laguna Beach police said.

The 55-year-old woman suffered facial and arm fractures along with head injuries and facial lacerations from the fall, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. She was transported to Mission Hospital Trauma Center in Mission Viejo and is expected to survive.

The recipient of the kick, Rudy James McEntire, 34, of Boulder, Colo., called police to report the 7:32 p.m. incident in the 300 block of Mermaid Street. Another person also reported that a woman had been pushed down a flight of stairs.

At the scene, witnesses and McEntire told police he quarreled with the victim, who thought he was flirting with her sister whose boyfriend had recently died. The victim allegedly kicked the suspect in the groin and he responded by pushing her backwards, which caused her to fall down stairs. “Had the officers thought he intentionally meant to cause her such great injury, they could have charged him with attempted murder,” Kravetz said.

McEntire posted $25,000 bail and was released with a future court date pending, Kravetz said.

Search Turns Up the Unexpected

Laguna detectives who made an early morning search of a parolee’s home in Dana Point last Thursday, April 26, arrested four different occupants, none of them the parolee, including one who armed himself with a loaded .44 Magnum revolver, according to police.

When detectives entered the trailer in the 3400 block of Doheny Park Rd., Kevin Andrew Hannegan, 36, of Dana Point, took up a handgun, but dropped it on a bed. He claimed to have not known the new arrivals were police.

Hannegan was arrested for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He posted $20,000 bail and was released, Lt. Jason Kravetz said

Aside from three outstanding warrants, Gary Paul Kalani Green, 33, also of Dana Point, was arrested for suspicion of drug possession and sales as police seized nine grams of heroin, nine opana pills and a gram of methamphetamine, Kravetz said.

Patricia Anne McLaughlin, 32, was arrested for an outstanding unspecified warrant, and Tyler Monroe McCoy, 47, was charged with alleged marijuana possession for sale. Both are of Lake Elsinore.
