The owner of a massage business operating in one of Laguna Beach’s busiest commercial areas was arrested for suspicion of prostitution on Friday, Aug. 23, police said.

Angel Liu, 49, of Rowland Heights, who police said operated Relaxbar at 1276 S. Coast Highway, was charged with the misdemeanor offense as a result of an undercover operation, Sgt. Louise Callus said.

“The department had received information that the business was possibly offering services other than massages,” she said.

Police last made a local arrest involving prostitution in December 2011.

Police Rescue Woman from Surf

A woman in need of medication who was reported missing by 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, was pulled from the ocean near Mountain Street Beach about 3 a.m., police said.

The 38-year-old Burbank woman was waist deep in water and headed further out when police arrived, responding to reports of a woman screaming, and attempted to coax her to shore, Sgt. Louise Callus said. With the help of a large wave that pushed the woman back to the beach, the officer, waist deep himself in water, pulled the woman onto the sand, Callus said.

Officers began their search around Montage’s resort and Aliso Creek Inn because of the missing woman’s familiarity with the area, her husband told police. Officers arriving at Mountain Street found her vehicle and its contents strewn on the street, Callus said.

The unidentified woman was transported to the hospital for evaluation, Callus said.
