Checkpoint Removes Two DUI Suspects

 

Two motorists suspected of driving while under the influence of alcohol were arrested and another six cited for driving unlicensed during a Laguna Beach police checkpoint on Saturday, Aug. 31, police said.

Nearly 2,300 vehicles were screened at the checkpoint set up near Blue Lagoon between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., Lieutenant Jeff Calvert said in a statement.

 

Monday, Aug 26

Petty theft. 30800 block of Coast Hwy. 4:47 p.m. A purse and its contents valued at $500 was stolen from a parked vehicle.

 

Tuesday, Aug. 27

Warrant service. 300 block of Cliff Dr. 12:53 p.m. Felipe Ruiz Jr., 51, of Laguna Beach was arrested for seven outstanding warrants.

Traffic collision. 2900 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 8:22 p.m. A 45-year-old Florida woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

 

Wednesday, Aug. 28

Traffic stop. Diamond St. 1:44 a.m. A 25-year-old Dana Point man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

Burglary. 2200 block of Temple Hills Dr. 6:47 a.m. An unknown suspect entered the unlocked front door of a home and stole a $1,000 laptop computer sometime over night.

Pedestrian stop. Forest Ave. 1:35 p.m. A 24-year-old woman was arrested for El Dorado County warrants and held for $2,500 bail.

Public intoxication. 500 block of Broadway. 10:40 p.m. Ann Mary Peitzsch Horvatin, 48, of Seal Beach, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and child endangerment. Bail was set at $100,000. Boys 12 and 8 were in the car.

Traffic collision. 1600 block of Park Ave. 11:15 p.m. One passenger sustained minor injuries after a speeding vehicle lost control and flipped over after crashing into a curb. No one was charged.

 

Thursday, Aug. 29

Detective activity. 23300 La Crescenta, Mission Viejo. 8:57 a.m. Adam Jeffrey Lee, 31, of Mission Viejo was arrested for and outstanding warrant. Bail was set at $10,000.

Burglary. 900 block of Skyline Dr. 11:17 a.m. Jewelry and money were discovered missing the previous day.

Traffic collision. Agate St. 7:53 p.m. Elodie Grace Ohlsen, 25, of Irvine, was arrested for outstanding warrants after a vehicle in which she was a passenger collided with parked cars.

 

Friday, Aug. 30

Traffic collision. 13-03132. Bluebird Canyon 8:43 a.m. Benjamin Craig Leonard, 25, of Laguna Beach was arrested for misdemeanor paraphernalia possession and a felony bench warrant following a collision between a motorist and a cyclist. No further details were available.

Suspicious person. 13-03138. Fairview St. 5:36 p.m. subjects are on trolley. A 19-year-old Moreno Valley man was arrested for a bench warrant as well as suspicion of burglary after he was observed allegedly trying car doors and was later found to be in possession of a stolen wallet. Bail was set at $20,000.

Out for investigation. 13-03139. 2500 Laguna Canyon Rd. 7:43 p.m. Michael Lunceford, 36, of Laguna Beach was held without bail for outstanding warrants.

Traffic stop. Aster St. 10:13 p.m. A 54-year-old Laguna Beach woman was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

 

Saturday, Aug. 31

Traffic stop. Hillcrest Dr. 12:37 a.m. A 29-year-old Huntington Beach man was cited for vehicle code bench warrants. Bail was set at $15,000.

Traffic stop. 1900 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 1:58 a.m. A 33-year-old Dana Point man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

 

Sunday, Sept. 1

Traffic stop. State Hwy. 3:59 a.m. A 45-year-old Newbury Park woman was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

Harassment. 1000 block of S. Coast Hwy. 6:32 p.m. Amber Castillo, 35, a local homeless woman, was arrested for a felony probation violation after snatching sunglasses from a Laundromat patron and threatening him with spit.

 

Monday, Sept. 2

Traffic stop. Sleepy Hollow. Ln. 1:44 a.m. Eric Torres, 23, of Colton, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and held for $10,000 bail due to a second offense.

Brandishing a weapon. Diamond St. 3:50 p.m. A motorist brandished a small pocket knife after a road rage incident. Police are unable to locate the suspect.
