A man on probation for a previous assault conviction was arrested in Tustin for suspicion of kidnapping and felony domestic violence after Laguna Beach police received reports of an assault in progress early Sunday, police said.

 

Joseph Barrak, 37, of Tustin, fled from El Toro Road when a man came to the aid of a woman being beaten and dragged towards a vehicle, Lt. Jason Kravetz said. About 12:27 a.m., citizens had reported seeing a male dragging a woman into a truck on Carmel Court. Barrak was found behind his home asleep in his truck, where police found clumps of the victim’s hair. Bail was set at $100,000.

 

Monday, March 26

Grand theft. 7:41 a.m. 700 block of Gull Circle. $1,000 worth of copper wire disappeared from a job site.

Traffic stop. 9:55 a.m. Thalia at Coast Hwy. A 30-year-old Riverside man was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

DUI. 1:23 p.m. 1300 blk N. Coast Hwy. Jose Alfredo Balladares Jiminez, 39, of Santa Ana, was arrested for suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and outstanding warrants after concerned citizens reported a possible drunk leaving the parking lot. He was not under the influence. Bail was set at $20,000.

Petty theft. 4:27 p.m. 300 block Coast Hwy. A man passed a counterfeit $50 while a woman stole a credit card from a back office. $125 charges were made at a gas station.

Traffic stop. Vista del sol. A San Diego resident, 49, was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

 

Tuesday, March 27

Traffic stop. 1:33 a.m 100 block of Coast Hwy. Mobil station. A 29-year-old Newport Beach resident was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Fraud. 300 block Thalia St. 9:38 a.m. A would-be customer who submitted a phony prescription for 240 Oxycodone pills fled after the suspicious pharmacist attempted to confirm the order from a doctor’s office.

Bomb threat. 11:26 a.m. 30800 Coast Hwy. The CVS Pharmacy was closed for about 20 minutes while police searched the premises after the store received a bomb threat. Nothing was found.

Vandalism. 3:33 p.m. Treasure Island Beach. Spray painted letters reported north of the arch.

Vandalism. 5:05 p.m. 2700 Park Ave. A neighbor hired someone to cut trees without permission.

 

Wednesday, March 28

Vehicle burglary. 2:23 p.m. 300 block of Third St. Occurred over night.

Drug activity. 2:38 p.m. 300 block of Broadway. St. Joy Lorraine Ryder, 36, and John Michael Hensley, 29, both of Laguna Beach, were arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of cocaine. A citizen reported seeing a couple cutting up and snorting a white substance.

Traffic stop. 7:10 p.m. 600 block of Coast Hwy. A 77-year-old Newport Beach man was arrested for an outstanding warrant over a license violation. Bail was set at $2,500.

Fraud. 7:37 p.m. 600 block of Glenneyre St. A resident reported being the subject of identity theft following the theft of a check from a mailbox.

Traffic stop. 10:35 p.m. Moss St. A 42-year-old Ladera Ranch resident was picked up for DUI and held for $2,500 in bail

 

Thursday, March 29

Disturbance. 800 block of Quivera St. 6:58 p.m. William Bruce Vivers, 53, of Costa Mesa, was arrested for suspicion of vandalism, drunk driving and extortion after a resident reported that her ex-boyfriend was ramming his car into her house. Two vehicles were damaged.

Traffic stop. 11:07 p.m. 200 block of Broadway St. Nicole Lindsay Moreno, 28, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for suspicion of possessing Vicodin and cannabis as well as  an outstanding warrant. Bail was set at $20,000. Officers stopped her vehicle after seeing it nearly hit a curb.

 

Friday, March 30

Fraud  9:07 a.m. 900 block Tia Juana St. A subject apparently used another person’s credit card to make a purchase.

Traffic stop. 1:21 p.m. Broadway. Mike Richard Burris, 47, of Vista, was arrested for suspicion of DUI, a second offense, and fraudulent vehicle tags. Bail was set at $10,000.

DUI 2:33 p.m. 31800 block of Coast Hwy. After citizens reported a vehicle swerving, Stefanie Mahealani Thais, 45, of Laguna Niguel, was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of pills and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Bail was set at $20,000.

Fraud. 4:44 p.m. 500 block of Forest Ave. A woman whose purse was stolen now has detected credit card fraud on her account.

 

Saturday, March 31

Traffic stop. 12:32 a.m. Vista del Sol. A 67-year-old Ladera Ranch woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Ped stop. 2:55 p.m. Beach St. Robert Scott Hawkins Jr., 30, of Newport Beach, was arrested for riding a bicycle while under the influence, resisting arrest, being under the influence of a controlled substance and three bench warrants. Bail was set at $10,000.

Sunday, April 1

Traffic stop. 12:19 a.m. Ledroit St. A 21-year-old Alpine woman was cited for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

 

Traffic stop. 1:15 a.m. Beach St. Raul Jon Carreon, 63, of Newport Beach, was arrested for suspicion of DUI, a second offense in 10 years, and held for $10,000 bail.

Traffic stop. 7:52 p.m. 600 block Brooks St. After witnesses reported seeing a vehicle hit a parked car, police arrested James Edward Skelton, 59, of Laguna Beach, for suspicion of DUI and held for $10,000 bail. He was previously arrested Feb. 11.

Reckless driving. 7:55 p.m. N. Coast Hwy. A 66-year-old Laguna Niguel woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
