Responding to a strong first quarter and betting on a resurgence of the luxury real estate market, Surterre Properties is expanding by opening a new office at Monarch Beach in Dana Point in June.

Tom Iovenitti, a former Coldwell Banker president, was hired to head business development by Surterre and examine other in-state opportunities and select cities across the country.

“I am very happy to be associated with a culturally focused professional firm like Surterre Properties, which provides its agents best-in-market support through award-winning design and advertising and the most advanced technology in the industry,” Iovenitti said in a statement.

In the year’s first quarter, the Newport Beach-based company recorded nearly $300 million in gross sales, with an average price of $1.4 million, said Gary Legrand, the company’s president and chief executive officer.

Based on the multiple listing service (MLS), The Schreiber Report and company production figures, Legrand says Surterre outpaced its competitors in sales and listings for the period.
