The annual Laguna College of Art and Design thesis exhibition will host an opening reception, Saturday, June 18, between 5-8 p.m., at Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Dr.

“Emerging Masters 2” is made up of drawings and paintings from LCAD thesis artists and runs through Sunday, July 17.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plein Air Exhibit Draws National Entries

A juried exhibition featuring over 60 original paintings from across the country opens at Forest and Ocean Gallery, 480 Ocean Ave.

The public is invited to the opening Laguna Plein Air Painters Association reception from 5-8 p.m. where Jean Stern, executive director of the Irvine Museum, will issue awards.

The top prize winner will be invited to participate in LPAPA’s 18th annual invitational in October, says a statement from Executive Director Rosemary Swimm.

New Shows Open at Sandstone Gallery

“Cosmic Dream,” Sunny Kim’s abstract expressionist acrylic paintings on linen, and mixed media paintings by Lynn Welker will be on display in the Sandstone Gallery, 384-A North Coast Highway, in June.

Other artists exhibiting are: Cindy Beatteay, Ann Kim, Dominique McKenzie, Anne Moore, Hyatt Moore, Jong Ro and Lawrence Terry.

 

Whitacre Exhibit Celebrates Golden Anniversary

A 50th anniversary sculpture exhibition of the work of artist, Ron Whitacre, will take place on Saturday, June 11, with a champagne reception from 5-9 p.m. and an open house on Sunday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Both events will be on the Frederick M. Lang estate, 31541 Eagle Rock Way.

Whitacre’s sculptural works are created mainly in welded steel and bronze. In Laguna, his best-known work is “Harmony,” a large steel sculpture of a man, woman, and child, installed in 1998 over the entrance to the Art-A-Fair in Laguna Canyon.

Festival of Arts exhibitors Tom Swimm and Jordan Dimitrov are featured in the on-land exhibition area of the Balboa Yacht Club Wooden Boat Festival Saturday, June 4.

Tours will be available of Wild Goose, a former WWII mine sweeper converted by actor John Wayne into a 136-foot pleasure yacht. Besides an art exhibit, the free 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. event includes 50 other wooden boats, maritime crafts, food, drink and music.

Shuttles are available from 1600 Newport Center Dr. Hats off to the event chair, Laguna Beach resident David LaMontagne.
