Thurston Middle School leadership students will collect new unwrapped toys and sports equipment through Dec. 10 to support the Laguna Beach Fire Department’s contribution to the Spark of Love Toy Drive.

Over the past six years, Thurston has proved the drive’s largest donation site in town, says a district statement.

“Our generous students are able to once again demonstrate the spirit of giving by donating to the toy drive and connecting with their local community,” said student advisor Leah Prettyman.

The drive by Southern California firefighters each year helps low-income families during December. Over the past two decades, more than 9 million unwrapped toys and gift cards have been donated for children in five Southern California counties.

Thurston students also host an appreciation lunch for fire fighters on Dec. 11.
