Laguna Beach High School’s surf team competed in the league finals against San Clemente, Dana Hills and Newport Harbor at Upper Trestles in San Onofre State Beach.
Despite the small surf and chilly temperature, Dante Madrigal came close to advancement in bodyboarding, coming off a season-long injury to cover for the injured Jack Dickerson.
Next up was girls longboard. Marlee Grosher unfortunately just missed out, but Kira Hamilton was very strong in her first heat and went on to finish sixth overall.
In girls shortboard, Laguna was well represented with a well surfed first heat from Cocco Putnam and a fifth overall final finish, Laguna’s top place for the day!
In boys longboard, Laguna tried hard, but came up short this year.
Shortboarders were scheduled to compete next week.
