The Surgeon and the Fuzz

Once upon a time in a not so far away land there was a powerful and vibrant cardiovascular surgeon. The physician, along with his surgical team made medical history by performing the first coronary bypass surgery. In his prime this man fixed many decrepit creatures who suffered from various ailments. He literally held his patient’s lives in his hands.

The vibrant man lived in a spacious hillside home, spent vacations on white sandy beaches with his family, traveled to exotic places and dined at some of the finest restaurants in the world. Yes, some might say he experienced a privileged life of luxury.

Subtly and slowly things transformed for the surgeon. In his passion to assist others to better health he forgot to meet his owns needs by not maintaining levels of health and wellness. The once dynamic man began to display and suffered from the same maladies as his patients. Eventually, and on more than one occasion, he ended up on the operating table in hope of curing the same heart dis-ease from which his patients deteriorated.
How is it we live, what we perceive, to be an active life only to yield to physical, emotional and spiritual breakdown? As the story goes, the surgeon temporarily fixed his heart maladies and continued to function at suboptimal levels. Eventually, he became limited in his bodily functions and range of motion in his arms and hips. At times he was not able to lift his arms above his head to reach for a cup from the cabinet to enjoy his favorite cup of coffee.

It was as if the surgeon’s own body was attacking him. I offer one of the countless physical demons by which he was invaded was the “fuzz.” The fuzz, a term pegged by Dr. Gil Hedley, PhD, is a debilitating condition due to calcification and thickening of the connective tissues. http://youtu.be/BdRqLrCF_Ys. Warning folks, as this video has graphic images and may not be suitable to some.

Research shows lack of movement and not adhering to a daily stretching program facilitates the effects of freezing fuzz. While we sleep fuzz raids the body and stiffens fascia and muscle fibers. Fascia is a protective membrane sheath which binds and supports organs and muscles. Calcification of connective tissues inhibits mobility, compromises breath and energy levels and impacts wellbeing. Animals and babies alike with their innate intelligence naturally stretch their bodies and connective tissues upon awakening.

Fuzz grows in our body like a voracious parasite waiting to devour all within its path. No one is immune from this creepy alien. Over time, it has the capacity to crystallize between muscle tissue slowly solidifying and limiting range of motion eventually immobilizing joints of the body.
Although we all have natural amounts of soft fuzz, autopsies confirm fuzz does not calcify in those who remain committed to a lifelong program of stretching and movement. With daily postural stretching, fuzz melts away like butter on a hot summer day.

I trust if the surgeon paid attention to his body’s signals and lack of mobility hence, correcting these physical issues, he may still be here today assisting others in living a more vibrant and productive life. It is my belief the fuzz was a major contributor to the once dynamic surgeon’s demise.

Do you have a custom designed stretching program to keep menacing fuzz at bay? How do you think you would experience your life if your body began to solidify? It’s a fact the fuzz does not come with old age as one would imagine. It is my experience daily stretching and movement keeps physiques from becoming “fuzzified” and immobile. Our bodies are designed to carry on and support us until we take our last breathe.

Perhaps the moral of the story is in order to avoid fuzz, keep moving and commit to a life of proper postural stretching. With all his experience and knowledge of fixing others, the surgeon failed to embody a life of proper movement and well-being therefore preventing him from succumbing to many disabilities, notably the debilitating fuzz.
