Due to its popularity, the fall prevention class that began as a weekly session at the Susi Q Center three years ago, now is offered four times a week in three levels by physical therapist and Laguna local Geeta Singh.

Singh teaches modified tai chi movements, flexibility and stretching exercises, strength training with resistive bands, eye/hand coordination and balancing exercises to her 84 students, who work at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

Laguna’s Lola Gillebaard, who is 83, “with no expiration date” claims she knows “for sure” that since taking Singh’s class she can prevent a fall and has become more agile.

Singh developed a passion for her work when she volunteered in a local hospital’s physical therapy department as a “candy striper” at age 15. She now holds a master’s of science in physical therapy from Washington University School of Medicine and has practiced in Laguna Beach for 10 years, specializing in senior and baby boomer rehabilitation and wellness.

In addition to teaching classes and attending to her private practice, Singh has produced a fall prevention exercise DVD at the request of her students at the Susi Q. And this month her application, Got a Minute, designed to get sedentary individuals up and moving throughout their day, will be available for mobile devices.
