Alexandra Murphy of Laguna Beach and London Chow of Redondo Beach, both 16, partnered up to win the gold medal at the California Beach Volleyball Association Tour Stop at Hermosa Beach Pier.
Murphy and Chow went undefeated in four games of pool play. In the semi final and championship match, Murphy and Chow beat Nicolette Martin (Anaheim) and Marina Boulanger (Goleta) 28-25.
In the final they met Laurel Weaver (Chatsworth) and Ariana Homayun (West Hills), and won 32-30. The first team to score 28 points wins, but teams must win by two points. To achieve a two-point spread, the players continued to play to 32 to win the day.
The gold medal qualifies both to play in the California Cup Youth Championships, scheduled for Manhattan Beach on Sept. 4
Murphy is a student at Laguna Beach High School student.
