It’s not every day that a chance to win an iPad2 falls from the sky.

On Friday, May 13, an expected 500 numbered golf balls, previously purchased by buyers of raffle tickets, will rain down from a helicopter hovering above SchoolPower’s Annual Golf Classic.

The ticket holder whose ball lands closest to the target will be awarded Apple’s newest gadget.

Golf balls are currently selling for $20 each, three for $50, and seven for $100. It’s a raffle well-suited for a golf competition and the imaginative event is one of many new twists added to this year’s Classic, themed “Celebrating ‘La Vita Bella.’”

After a day of competition on the greens at Bella Collina Golf Club in San Clemente, players and guests are invited to an evening at the club. “Dinner will be made of the freshest ingredients,” promised Meschi Schmidt, chairman of SchoolPower’s golf fundraiser, referring to a chef’s garden on the premises. “The evening is about great food and wine, laughter, conversation, entertainment and community. All of these give us la vita bella!”

Golf Classic tickets can be purchased online at www.lbschoolpower.org; both golf and helicopter drop raffle tickets are available by calling the SchoolPower office at (949) 494-6811.

Winners need not be present for the raffle. Proceeds will benefit all four Laguna Beach schools, with 20 percent going specifically to LBHS Athletics.
