Test Scores Show Increase

Scores on the California Standards Test showed an increase in the percentage of Laguna Beach students reaching proficient and advanced levels in every core content area, district officials said in a statement.

Students’ scores for English-Language Arts increased to 86% from 81.8 in the advanced and proficient categories. In mathematics, students’ advanced and proficient scores moved up to 77% from 73.

The figures place the district among the top tier of high-performing districts.

“Results like these are possible only because of the hard work of our educators and an unrelenting focus on our core business – education,” said Supt. Sherine Smith.

Because the percentage of students scoring ‘proficient’ and ‘advanced’ increased in every core content area, district administrators anticipate a resulting increase in Academic Performance Index scores, which are released next month, said Asst. Supt. of Instructional Services Deni Christensen.

CST was developed to measure student knowledge of the state’s content standards.
