Students try to master the physics of velocity in an Epic Challenge game.

There were skateboard races, basketball dunks, straw races, and even the messy, but sweet game of finding the gummy worm at the bottom of the whip cream. Thurston students who took the Epic Challenge before the winter break raised money for their school and won prizes offered by local merchants and donated by families.

“The best part of this whole fundraiser was that the kids get to just be kids. They were silly, played and had fun. Aside from raising money for the school, that’s the biggest gift we gave the students and their families,” said co-chair Lynn Gregory.

Supporters included Mission Hospital, Reel Talent Management, Volcom, Crescent Bay Holdings, Silverfish, Laguna Beach Little League and J. Kramer Corp., the Langton Family, Kimball Orthodontics, Citizens Bank, Staples, Office Max, Costco, Target, Whole Foods, Ralph’s, Vons Pavillions, Albertsons, Stater Brothers, Wahoo’s, La Sirena, Subway, Gina’s Pizza, Active Culture, Banzai Bowl, Regency South Coast Cinema, Laguna Surf & Sport, Hobie, Trader Joe’s, In & Out, Starbucks, Walmart, Target, Dolce Gelato, Gelato Paradiso and Ganahl Lumber.
