Laguna Hills’ Saddleback Memorial Medical Center was selected by Sunnyvale-based Intuitive Surgical, a maker of robotic surgical systems, as the first robotic training center for gynecologic surgery in the county.

Saddleback Memorial is one of three designated centers on the West Coast and will host gynecologic surgeons observing robotic surgeries in the da Vinci Si surgical suite, which allows surgeons to use a minimally invasive approach in complex procedures.

Dr. Marc Winter will lead the teaching program, according to Intuitive Surgical. He  describes robotic surgery as the single most important breakthrough in women’s surgeries in the past decade. With increased surgical precision, patients benefit from shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, less pain and scarring, decreased blood loss, and lower risk of infection.
