High school sophomore Jake Mangus and junior Jeffery Rubino achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Both are members of Troop 35, chartered by the Laguna Presbyterian Church in 1945.

Jeff is the third generation in the Rubino family to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.  Jeffery’s grandfather, Frank G. Rubino, M.D. of Capistrano Beach earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1950 as a member of Troop 58 in West Hollywood. His son, Douglas F. Rubino of Laguna Beach earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1974 as a member of Troop 1506 in Anaheim.

In order to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout boys must earn a total of 21 merit badges and plan, lead and complete an extensive Eagle Scout service project.

Jeff led a group of boys and adults in installing a new workshop area at the Friendship Shelter in Laguna Beach.

Jake enlisted a group, including fellow scout Joseph Kerfoot, in a 60-hour project building shelving and a storage closet at Lang Park for use by AYSO.
