Laguna Beach officers made two arrests of allegedly impaired drivers at a checkpoint near Irvine Cove late Saturday, Aug. 20, according to police.
Of 1,750 vehicles stopped, three other drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed and another four issued other citations, Lt. Jeff Calvert said in a statement.
Police say the checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence.
Monday, Aug. 15
Vehicle burglary. 1000 block of Temple Hills Dr. 8 a.m. Occurred overnight.
Vandalism. 1200 block of Temple Hills Dr. 10:55 a.m. A neighbor cut down a tree without authorization two days earlier.
Grand theft. 3000 block of Mountain View Dr. 12:49 p.m. The owner of a $10,000 Rolex watch reported its disappearance.
Grand theft. 31800 block of Eighth Ave. 3:57 p.m. Two of five packages with contents valued at $10,000 was taken.
Vehicle burglary. 200 block of Cypress Dr. 3:58 p.m. A computer was taken from a vehicle where a window was smashed.
Tuesday, Aug 16
Petty theft. 20600 block of Laguna Canyon. 6:45 a.m. A computer was reported stolen.
Detective activity. Jurupa Valley. 12:53 p.m. Detectives arrested a 16-year-old Jurupa Valley boy, who in July admitted to a sexual assault of a co-worker at Table Rock Beach the month before. The case was filed in juvenile court.
Wednesday, Aug. 17
Traffic collision. Cleo St.7:59 a.m. A 49-year-old Irvine man was arrested for DUI and then transported for medical treatment following a collision that sent a parking meter through his windshield. Police also found an open 12-pack of beer in the crunched car.
Fraud. 31100 block of Brooks St. 1:38 p.m. A resident’s credit report revealed unauthorized accounts that a resident believes stems from a 2003 identity theft.
Robbery. 100 block of S. Coast Hwy. 3 p.m. Shawn Stover, 38, of Santa Monica, was arrested for suspicion of robbery after he allegedly pushed over a cyclist and stole his bike. Bail was set at $100,000.
Traffic stop. Vista del sol 10 p.m. A 34-year-old San Clemente woman was arrested for DUI.
Thursday, Aug. 18
Traffic collision. 2600 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 7:33 a.m. A motorist who swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle crashed into a power pole that closed the canyon road for six hours. The driver was uninjured.
Vandalism. 1300 block of Terrace Way. 4:26 p.m. A neighbor cut trees without permission.
Traffic stop. Crescent Bay Drive. 8:19 p.m. A 65-year-old Petaluma man was cited for DUI.
Friday, Aug. 19
Vehicle stop. Forest Ave. 2:17 a.m. A 22-year-old Long Beach man was cited for DUI.
Fraud. Blue Lagoon. 11:53 a.m. A grandmother purchased $2,000 worth of iTunes cards for someone impersonating an injured grandson before a store manager advised her the appeal was a scam.
Fraud. Forest Ave. 1:33 p.m. A resident sent three checks to Washington, D.C., totaling $10,800 for a painting.
Assault. 200 block of Wave St. 4:19 p.m. A paddle boarder reported being threatened by another surfer, who jumped on his board and threw his paddle on the rocks.
Traffic stop. Legion St. 10 p.m. A 28-year-old Laguna Beach man was cited for DUI.
Traffic stop. 100 block of Cress St. 11:43 p.m. A 23-year-old San Diego man was cited for DUI.
Saturday, Aug. 20
DUI. Ocean Ave. 1:35 a.m. A 26-year-old Aliso Viejo woman was cited for DUI.
Pedestrian stop. 30900 block of Coast Hwy. 2:32 a.m. Leslie Jan Shacklett, 54, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for violating a court order prohibiting her contact with the man she was with.
Traffic stop. Aster St. 3:42 a.m. Kevin Patrick Sheehan, 19, of Lakewood, was arrested for suspicion of auto theft, behind the wheel of a car stolen in the 31800 block of Virginia Way.
Sunday, Aug. 21
Property. 800 block of Wendt Terrace. 9:37 a.m. An unknown person left an open package stuffed with mail from multiple residents.
Theft. 900 block of N. Coast Hwy. 10 a.m. A purse with $200 in valuables left in a mailbox was stolen.
Theft. 600 block of St. Ann’s Drive. 11 a.m. $600 prescription sunglasses were stolen.
Grand theft. 200 block of Broadway St. 7:12 p.m. A man who grabbed a handbag that had been set down jumped into the passenger seat of a car, which fled the area. The purse and its contents were valued at $1,200 stolen.
Traffic collision. Laguna Canyon Road. 7:50 p.m. A motorist reported neck injuries as a result of a two-car collision.
