The popular Laguna Beach Live jazz series kicks off Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. with the hot sounds of The Latin Jazz Syndicate at Seven-Degrees, 891 Laguna Canyon Road.

The Latin Jazz Syndicate features trumpeter Bijon Watson and pays homage to America’s indigenous music while maintaining the rhythmic and harmonic authenticity of a variety of ethnic styles.

Prior to the musical performance, dance instructor Pepe Gonzalez will be offering dance instruction beginning at 5 p.m.

Symphony Asks Residents to Fill in the Notes

The Pacific Symphony is calling all Orange County residents to help inspire a new piece of music for the symphony’s community project, OC In Unison.

Guided by Music Director Carl St.Clair, the Pacific Symphony has chosen composer-in-residence Narong Prangcharoen to write a new anthem.

Chorale Offers Singers Musicianship Class

The public is invited to register for a low-cost skills building class for intermediate-level singers offered by Pacific Chorale, resident choir of Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

“The class focuses on improving sight-reading skills, provides an introduction to compound meter, and features an introduction to reading works in the standard choral literature,” said Molly Pontin, the chorale’s education director.

The course will be held at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in the SCR Room on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m., Jan. 18-Feb. 8 and costs $80.
