Cruise to Alaska Seminar
Amanda Jordan of Princess Cruises will be in the Laguna Room from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, to promote this travel special for an Alaska cruise. Refreshments and door prizes will be provided, and a short film will be shown. The ship sets sail on Aug. 7.
The free Newsmaker’s Forum meets at noon on Wednesdays in the tech room to watch interviews with the most interesting writers, politicians, and public figures of our time. A facilitator-led discussion follows the viewing.
Memoir Writing Workshop Tuesdays
A memoir-writing workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 18, in the game room. If you have a story to share but need help getting started, this workshop may be for you. The cost for the workshop is $95 for six sessions.
Advanced Awareness Seminar
Veeder South, Ph.D., is conducting a free introductory, two-hour enlightening workshop from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, on how to achieve greater happiness in life.
AARP Driver Safety Course
An AARP driver safety refresher course will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, and Friday, Jan. 28, in the Laguna Room. The course will teach participants driving strategies and defensive driving techniques. Participants may also be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.
Free Bus to Dr. Phil Show
The Dr. Phil Show is again sponsoring a free bus to two tapings of his show at the Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood on Tuesday, Feb. 8, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bus will leave from the Albertson’s shopping center. Space is limited and early reservations are recommended.
Hearing Assistance Devices Now Available
Thanks to the generosity of local artist Sabra Lande, the center now as a new portable hearing device system. Stop by the front desk to learn more.
Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group
Caregivers are invited to please join the Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. This group discusses how to recognize the early signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia, and participants share strategies for dealing with loved ones who are affected by the disease.
Free Hearing Screening
Audiologist Cheryl Eiler will perform free hearing screenings from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Appointments are scheduled every 30 minutes, and the results will be mailed to your home.
