Film Chronicles an Extraordinary Goal

5-whats-showing-out-diane-nyadThe award-winning documentary, “The Other Shore,” following world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad, screens at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Woman’s Club, 286 St. Ann’s Dr.

At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, Emmy-nominated producer and director, Timothy Wheeler, brings his aunt’s extraordinary adventure to life. He will be on hand for a Q and A following the presentation.

The film follow’s Nyad’s quest as she comes out of a 30-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage.

Local Film Makers Win Big in Tornonto

“National Parks Adventure,” produced by local Laguna film company MacGillivray Freeman Films, won best film of the year award, best cinematography, best sound design, best score and best marketing campaign awards at the Giant Screen Cinema Association trade show in Toronto, Oct. 4-7.

“National Parks Adventure” celebrates not only the centennial of America’s national parks, but wild landscapes everywhere,” said Greg MacGillivray, the film’s director and chairman of MacGillivray Freeman Films.

Narrated by Robert Redford, “National Parks Adventure” was filmed in more than 30 national parks.
