Last year’s jazz ensemble raises holiday spirits.

Students perform in several crowd-pleasing concerts over the next week that are open to the public and take place at the Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave.

On Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., the LBHS Dance Department program, “Essence,” features professional and student choreographers along with department directors Lisa Jay and Danielle Pigneri.

Professional choreographers include Leann Alduenda, Erika Fernandez, Darrien Henning, and Michael Perez. Student choreographers for the program are Natalee Palmer and Karina Parker.

Tickets for the dance concert, $8 for students and $15 for  general admission, can be obtained at the box office, (949) 497-7769.

On Monday, Dec. 17, Thurston Middle School band students team up with high school players for the Winter Instrumental Concert. The middle school’s string ensemble, junior band, concert band and jazz band perform from 6 to 8 p.m., when the high school’s string ensemble, jazz band and wind ensemble take the stage.

The jazz bands are performing classic material from the American songbook, as well as an original by student composer, Kenji Lee.

Instrumental Music Director Jeremy Chung conducts the schools’ string and wind ensembles, as well as the junior and concert bands. Jazz Director Roger Shew conducts the jazz bands.

On Thursday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m., the Winter Vocal Concert features the Laguna Beach High School and Thurston Middle School singers. Choral Musical Director Roxanna Ward directs the concert.
