Boys Soccer
Laguna Beach ran its unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-0 home win over Oxford Academy on Thursday, Dec. 19. Reed Matthews and Willy Wheeler had one goal each to pace the Breakers. Laguna entered play against Sage Hill last Friday with a 4-0-1 record, having yielded only one goal all season.
Girls Soccer
Early season woes continued for the girls, as Irvine High scored two in the first half and held off all Laguna attempts at a comeback to take a 2-0 victory on the Breakers home field Wednesday, Dec. 18. The loss dropped Laguna to 2-4-1 overall.
Girls Water Polo
Laguna took to their home waters Wednesday, Dec. 19 and swamped San Clemente 18-8. Makenzie Fischer found the net at will, scoring eight goals. Mackenzie Baldridge added five and Lexie Del Toro scored three for a Laguna team that also recorded 20 steals. The CIF sixth-ranked division 1 Breakers returned to their home pool Friday, Dec. 21 and knocked off ninth-ranked San Marcos High (Santa Barbara) 18-8 to run their record to 5-1 on the season.
Girls Basketball
Laguna is now 8-1 after Saddleback Valley Christian had to forfeit its road game against Laguna Thursday, Dec. 20 because they didn’t have enough players to fill out their starting five. Laguna is in Palm Desert this weekend, competing in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic, where they need to beat Coachella Valley, St. Margaret’s and Desert Christian Academy in that order to earn a spot in the title game.
Boys Basketball
Laguna Beach ran its season record to 8-5 by crushing local rival Corona del Mar 54-39 in the 14th annual North/South Challenge at El Toro High on Saturday, Dec. 22. Junior guard Alec Wulff led the Breakers in scoring and was named MVP of the game.
