By Robin Pierson | Special to the Independent A celebration of women artists will be held at The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach at the Spring Women Artists Boutique on Sunday, March 13, from noon to 5  p.m.

Jewelers, knitters and painters, along with illustrators, photographers and furniture makers will gather to sell their creations. The event, which gives local women an opportunity to sell their art, will also benefit the Women and Family Assistance Center, a division of the Woman’s Club, that aids women and their families by distributing holiday presents, school supplies and food, while directing those in need to community resources.

At this free event, shoppers will have an opportunity to sip wine and nibble refreshments while listening to live piano music performed by Pam Wicks, all at the clubhouse located at 286 St. Ann’s Drive.

Many of the artists featured at the event imbue their pieces with their personal experiences. Barbara Garret responds to poetry, nature, and poignant moments shared between people, by painting. Lynn Weiser photographs patterns of light, celebrating sight as her aunt goes blind. Lyn Steg pays homage to her eight-year-stint as a teacher in Egypt by adding replicas of scarabs, the sacred beetle of Egypt buried with mummies, into her wire-wrapped hoop earrings and necklaces. And jaxiejax, a judicial worker surrounded by the dark side of crime and litigation, creates an innocent, playful world of a child in her illustrations.

All of the items are handcrafted and many are one of a kind. Jeweler Liz Malloy folds metal to create waves that she crafts into earrings and pendants. Leah Cano knits and crotchets scarves out of hand dyed silk and bamboo, accenting the pieces with beads and ribbons. Home restorer Michaela Jeppson transforms old jewelry, polished stones, corks and wine labels into one of a kind art pieces. Mother Beth Kukuk finds her creative outlet making necklaces out of hammered sterling, interlocking orbs that flow like ivy. And necklaces made of chunks of crystal, aqua quartz and rustic silver crosses are a few of Anne Maa’s samples that will be on display.

All of the artists, and others, have donated items to a silent auction. Bidding will close at 4:30 p.m. The Woman’s Club is located on the corner of St. Ann’s and Glenneyre.
