Woman’s Club members are willing to take on the next challenge for the community.

What will the Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach members do next?

With their most recent project, the Woman’s Club raised $20,000 to purchase a dog, Ranger, for the police department, an effort that perhaps contributed to its nomination as non-profit of the year by the Chamber of Commerce in 2014.

The club prides itself in honoring outstanding individuals in the community, and will host a wine and cheese open house Friday, April 24, at 4 p.m. to welcome the new police chief, Laura Farinella.

Woman’s Club members assist the community in myriad ways, from a literacy project that aids second graders to a Tarnished Treasures fundraiser for needy families to hosting weekly AA meetings. Rental of its clubhouse funds charitable projects and expenses.

Covered California Extends Enrollment

Many consumers are just realizing they will have a substantial tax penalty for failing to enroll for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Penalties are double that of 2014, according to Patrick Freeman, a certified Covered California agent in Laguna Beach.

For example, a person earning $40,000 per year will pay a penalty of $300 a year, doubling to $600 next year for failing to enroll, Freeman said.

Consumers can still enroll for at least part of 2015, he said.

Freeman can be contacted at 949 497 7473 or www.lagunabeachinsurance.com
