Local Author Sets Romance Novel in Her Hometown

Dana Point author Anita Hughes, author of the novel “Monarch Beach,” visits Laguna Beach Books on Friday, June 22, at 6 p.m.

The debut novel is about a woman’s journey back to happiness after an affair splinters her perfect marriage and life. The main character spends the summer at the St. Regis Resort to escape the drama of the breakup.

Australia-born Hughes has lived in Dana Point six years and is at work on her next novel.

Poets Who Pen Divine Rhymes Announced

The winners of the Laguna Beach Library’s 14th Annual Poetry Contest will be announced Saturday, June 9, at 3 p.m.

The public is invited to hear the winning poets share their poems at the reading.  Winners will receive gift cards to Laguna Beach Books, courtesy of the Friends of the Laguna Beach Library, and the winning poems will be available in our annual poetry booklet.

Investor Tries a Different Market

Laguna Beach resident Charles D. Martin’s “Provocateur,” is set to be released by Chaney-Hall Publishing Group this August.

It is the story of Nadia, a young Russian woman who comes to America through a mail-order-bride program and ends up working for an ex-CIA agent that extracts money from wealthy men. Academy Award winning screenwriter David Ward is adapting Martin’s book for film.

Martin is chairman and chief investment officer of the Newport Beach hedge fund Mont Pelerin Capital that he founded in 2005. “Provocateur” is his first novel.
