Editor,

Why does Laguna Beach have to build housing for all the homeless or mental cases in south county? There is talk about town that Newport Beach residents send money to our town to build a shelter for homeless persons they send south.

Why can’t John Pietig and Newport’s city manager sit down and have a conversation about this problem? Build a shelter elsewhere, not in Laguna Beach.

We have the Friendship Shelter, which does an admirable job in getting families or individual persons off the street and employment. We have a detox center near The Friendship Center.

Irvine has many more acres to build a much larger housing facility. Laguna Canyon is not the place, nor is it a place for a huge storage facility, which could at sometime be converted to live work studios or LCAD classrooms.
