Zpizza, based in Newport Beach, won the first Ultimate Food Fanatic Awards program for their Nice zSlice anti-bullying program.

Teachers from more than 200 schools nationwide partnered with local Zpizza restaurants, rewarding student kindness with a complimentary slice of pizza. They also hosted pizza parties and provided materials for the educators.

The Zpizza team recently accepted the award in St. Helena, Calif., a five-foot spoon trophy and a $10,000 credit for a kitchen makeover.

Curls on Top Hair Studio in Laguna Beach along with Lorraine Massey, author of “The Curly Girl Handbook,” successfully raised $10,000 to benefit Keep a Child Alive Foundation, which supports children affected and orphaned by AIDS/HIV in Africa and India.

The event at a private home in North Laguna drew a passel of curly girls for a sunset soiree. The following day salon owner Vickie Vela and Lorraine Massey clipped side by side for a Curls with Purpose cut-a thon.
