Charles Murray, founder of Laguna Beach-based Endangered Planet Foundation, is following earthquake-recovery efforts in Haiti with new interest.

He has organized an aid mission to Haiti in which his nephew Cameron Murray, and his wife Leighia, sailed a boat to La Gonâve Island, off Haiti, to deliver seven tones of cargo, including solar panels, medical supplies, school supplies, seeds, solar cookers, computers and 1000 pairs of shoes.

Murray plans to install the 1.6-kilowatt solar array to provide electricity and an internet connection to a school run by Friends of the Children of Haiti Association.

The boat, SV Tranquility, was delayed by foul weather after departing from Miami, Fla., but on Saturday reached the island that has largely been forgotten in the effort to restore Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake. This is the Tranquility’s second mission to La Gonâve since last year.
