Community Invited to Fire Safety Meeting

The public is invited to join Village Laguna and City Manager John Pietig, Mayor Bob Whalen, and Emergency Operations Coordinator Jordan Villwock at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 25, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 429 Cypress Drive. They will discuss how residents can be prepared for a fast-moving fire, and what actions are being planned to insure the safety of all in case of such an emergency. City officials visited Paradise, California last year, prior to forming a fire safety task force, as Laguna Beach shares topographic characteristics similar to Paradise.

 

 

Messy Church Offers ‘A-maze-ing Paths’

Messy Church, a Laguna Beach United Methodist Church monthly event, welcomes individuals and families who are not comfortable in a conventional church setting from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, to “build labyrinths and be a-maze-d,” Messy Church coordinator Barbara Crowley said.

Lent is a time for personal journeys. Where have you been? Where are you going? What signs and milestones have you recognized or overlooked? Do you need a compass? Explore paths less traveled to Messy Church and experience joyful worship for all ages. An RSVP is appreciated, but not required. A meal will be served. LBUMC is located at 21632 Wesley Drive. Royal Hawaiian to Reopen April 3

The Royal Hawaiian Fire Grill plans to reopen on Tuesday, April 3, according to the restaurant’s website. The restaurant is only accepting online reservations from April 3-10. Reservations can also be made for Easter brunch (April 21) and Mother’s Day brunch (May 12).

Local restaurateur and chef Mariano “Maro” Molteni—former owner of Maro Wood Grill—took over operations at the iconic restaurant in January. The restaurant closed for renovations on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Molteni is operating the eatery with his brother and fellow chef, Martin Molteni.

 

Crafts at the Cobblestones

The Laguna Craft Guild will present their work on the cobblestones at Main Beach from 9 a.m. until sundown on Sunday, March 24.

 

‘Real Talk’ at Susi Q on Wednesday

The community is invited to participate in a public workshop on Wednesday, March 27, aimed to help people develop resilience that can help manage mental health during life’s inevitable challenges. Dr. Elsie Beach, a licensed clinical psychologist with a specialty in abuse and trauma, will facilitate the meeting.

The workshop will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Susi Q Center Community Room, 380 Third Street, Laguna Beach. The event is free, and seating is limited. RSVP to [email protected]. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Laguna Beach Interfaith Council and the Baha’is of Laguna Beach.

Republicans Host March Meeting

Emil Monda, president of the LBGOP, invites all Republicans, Independents and Libertarians to hear Shawn Steele, GOP Committeeman for California, speak about the 2018 election results on Thursday, March 28. Social hour is at 5 p.m., and the meeting runs from 6-7:15 p.m. at Mozambique Restaurant, 1740 S. Coast Highway

“Shawn’s presentation is very informative as a post mortem of the 2018 election and provides ideas for the upcoming 2020 election cycle,” Monda said in a statement.

 Spring Social Skills Program Announced

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is enrolling students in its new Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS), to help children navigate and improve social skills and awareness. The eight-week class will be led by certified PEERS facilitator and Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach director of social emotional development, Jennifer MacDonell, who holds a master’s in psychology. Classes are on Wednesdays from April 10 to May 8 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. depending on grade level. During each group session, youth are taught important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session during socialization activities. Pre- and post-tests will be given to youth and parents for outcome measures to ensure the quality of the program. Placement is determined at an intake appointment and based on group dynami

City to Host Annual Track & Field Meet

The City of Laguna Beach will host the annual Boys & Girls Track Meet on Friday, March 29, from 5-8 p.m. at Laguna Beach High School. All children born in or after the year 2004 and who reside in Laguna Beach or attend school within the Laguna Beach Unified School District boundaries are invited to attend.
