In the annual match-up between former LBHS soccer players and this year’s current girls’ squad, alumni applied strength and experience from the start.

The final on Saturday, Jan. 4, was 2-0 in favor of the alumni, the first alum victory in eight years.

Although the LBHS varsity squad “sat out” several key players, the alumni team took advantage of the young Breakers with a goal in each half. The current Breaker team, made up primarily of ninth and 10th graders, controlled the midfield, but were unable to penetrate the experienced alumni defense. The predominance of LBHS college-experienced players gave the alumni the edge.

Also playing for the alumni were four players who have returned as coaches at various times in the LBHS girls soccer program: Laura Yale ’05 and Nicole Lengacher ’04 as well as Courtney Hamchuk ’05 and Lura Hills ’09.
