A Laguna Beach resident was displaced from their home due to fire this week, the second structure fire in seven days, the fire department reported Wednesday.

The most recent blaze, which caused an estimated $150,000 damage, broke out at 7 p.m. in the 700 block of Buena Vista Way on Monday, Dec. 11, and appears to have been caused by a fireplace fire, Chief Jeff LaTendresse said.

On the previous Monday, Dec. 3, a fire erupted at a North Laguna home on Louise Street, which caused an estimated $380,000 in damage. The cause is still under investigation, LaTendresse said.

Five engine and a truck were dispatched to the Temple Hills blaze in a multi‐story, cliff-hanger home, where flames were visible from the roof when the 24 firefighters arrived, LaTendresse said.

The homeowner escaped the building uninjured and firefighters were able to contain the fire to the roof in 30 minutes, he said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is believed to stem from a fire starting in the fire place, he said.
