Apology

The Laguna Beach Independent and Newport Beach Independent run an insert weekly called The Coastal Real Estate Guide (CREG). Coldwell Banker provided the CREG editor with an article about one of its sales associates, which we published in the March 11 edition. We apologize for not checking the statements in the article properly.

We have had numerous responses to the article shedding doubt about the credentials of the sales associate.

We have initiated an investigation in to the facts of the case, and will report them in next week’s issue of the newspaper. Appropriate action will be taken if necessary.

  1. As far as fake Navy SEALs go his story was pretty funny… Busted poser… Fortunately for you as long as you haven’t altered any government documents your punishment will likely be living your life as your miserable self.

  2. Here’s an idea.

Do a series on Stolen Valor. There are many people who claim military status or while in the military, special qualification or unearned awards.

There are several of us who validate the authenticity of, or expose the fraudulent when they claim that they are SEALs.

    There is also another venue:

http://POWnetwork.org – They expose and list phonies from all over the country who make unfounded claims.

To the LB Indy Staff – if you need some input, please contact me.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

  3. I applaud your paper for doing the right thing. These fake SEAL’s and phony war heroes are disgusting. It will be interesting to see how this guy tries to backpedal when confronted with the truth. They usually go with “I was in a Secret training cycle.” If that is what he say, laugh in his pathetic face, then publish his phone number.

  4. I was at the Coldwell Banker office in Laguna Beach when I read that article to I emailed Mr Mason and asked him what class number he was in and what year since my business partner is a Navy SEAL (I just attended his retirement last Tuesday Thank you Mike Carroll for your service!) and I texted Mike and asked if he had ever heard of David Mason. He told me the class number and year were off so there was a 99% chance he was not ever a SEAL. Guess I wasn’t the only one who looked into it.
